Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (ASET) Lab

Welcome to the ASET shared instrumentation website. ASET is housed in the ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building (CPISB) room 321 at the University of 熊猫在线视频, Anchorage. This state-of-the-art quantitative analytical facility houses over $2 Million in instrumentation and serves researchers studying some of the most vexing scientific and engineering challenges facing 熊猫在线视频 and the Circumpolar North.

This modern analytical equipment was provided by the University of 熊猫在线视频 Foundation, the National Science Foundation鈥檚 EPSCoR Program Office, the NSF MRI Chem Division, the NIH 熊猫在线视频 INBRE Equipment Grant program, and donations via 熊猫在线视频 DEC and the State crime lab. On this site, you will find basic information about the facility and available instrumentation.

About ASET

ASET is a shared instrumentation facility operated by the faculty of the UAA Chemistry Department. The goals are to:

  • Support the integration of research and undergraduate/graduate student experience.
  • Develop high-demand job skills for students in quantitative analytical methods.
  • Engage UAA faculty in their professional fields to establish interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Connect with local industry and community members to address research questions unique to 熊猫在线视频

ASET is a free resource to the UAA campus; we do not charge for the use of instrumentation. In general we do not run samples on a contract basis and are available for consultation and training only. Undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students receive training and operate the instruments on a day-to-day basis. PI鈥檚 wishing to use the instruments should have their students contact the Director of Instrumentation for training and account setup.

The Chemistry Department teaches a course in Chemical Instrumentation and Methods, Chem A418/618, typically offered in the spring. We strongly recommend students enroll in this course, however training is available for all students.

There are no fees to use the instrumentation but consumables must be provided by the PI. For example, if you want to run the LCMS you must provide a column, sample vials, and mobile phase. Or if you want to run the NMR you must provide the NMR tubes and deuterated solvents. We may have some of the consumables you need in-stock and available for backfill after use, feel free to ask. Additionally, it is required to arrange approval of chemical safety plans and disposal of any hazardous waste with EHS.
