Growing from a small organization offering a handful of classes to local students to a multi-campus system serving more than 1,600 students each semester, Kenai Peninsula College marked its 60th anniversary with an open house event highlighting its rich history and local impact, drawing more than 400 students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members.

Launched as part of a brand refresh, the new tagline — "Your Journey," "Your Community" and "Your Impact" — captures distinct-yet-interconnected elements of what UAA offers and represents, addressing different audiences while reinforcing a cohesive narrative.

For Diane Hanson, Ph.D., professor emerita of anthropology, retirement is not the end of a career discovering ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s prehistory, but rather the opening of a new chapter. Hanson is currently working on a proposal to return to Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands to investigate an archaeological site she visited decades earlier.

A new program led by UAA's ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Small Business Development Center will deploy over $83 million in federal funds to drive private sector investments into rural and ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Native-owned businesses across the state. By bringing together 125 of ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s federally recognized tribes to create the largest tribal consortium in the nation, the program will provide critical financial resources for ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ’s small businesses and help foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Michele Yatchmeneff, associate professor of civil engineering and executive director for ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Native Education and Outreach at UAA, recently joined NSF's Discovery Files podcast to discuss her background, the importance of belonging and engaging ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Native students in STEM fields.

Atlas' $50,000 donation to UAA will fund seven scholarships to help offset education costs for students pursuing careers in the aviation industry. The needs-based scholarships will help expand opportunities for students while addressing critical workforce shortages.
