At approximately 4 a.m. on Aug. 29 University Police officers on patrol observed two men acting suspiciously in a vehicle parked near the intersection of Lake Otis Parkway and 36th Avenue. Once detected, the vehicle drove off but was pulled over in order for UPD to further investigate the situation.
As a result, illegal drugs, weapons, and a large amount of cash were seized as evidence. Dylan Adkins, 18, of Anchorage was charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons 3rd Degree, Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, and Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 4th Degree. He was lodged at the Anchorage jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. Zachary Lepry, 22, of Anchorage was charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons 3rd Degree and Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 2nd Degree. He was also held in jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.
Later the same morning at approximately 6:00 a.m. UPD was flagged down by a contract janitor who stated that a young man had attempted to steal his vehicle while it was parked and running outside Rasmuson Hall. Officers observed the suspect on foot near the police station and chased him to the area west of Cuddy Hall where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. After completing their investigation, officers charged Andrew Bekoalok, 18, of Anchorage with several crimes and remanded him to jail in lieu of $5000 bail. Bekoalok was charged with Vehicle Theft 1st Degree, DUI, Unlicensed Driving, and other alcohol related offenses.
Officers Scott Chafin, Chris Villers, Marcia Fischer and Detective Mike Beckner worked together to complete comprehensive interviews, evidence collection and court testimony in these cases.
