UAA renews institutional reaccreditation
by Kathleen McCoy |
UAA recently received notice from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) that our institutional, continual accreditation has been reaffirmed on the basis of our fall 2009 report and site visit.
NWCCU commended UAA for doing an excellent job responding to the requirements of the Commission's new and still-changing standards in a shortened timeframe, and for tying so well the institution's mission to the new core themes. Further, all involved in this effort were praised for responding to the requirements as a process of discovery and an opportunity to think deeply and in new ways about the University. It is clear and laudable that UAA regards all of this activity as ongoing, iterative, inclusive and important. Lastly, NWCCU commended UAA for the transparent ways in which it engages in planning, decision-making and budgeting; and for the exemplary ways in which leadership, governance, significant discussions, planning and decision-making are the work of a wide range of administrators, faculty, staff, students and external constituents. Such wide and open participation has clearly created a culture of respect, confidence and trust across the University and into the Anchorage community.
