On a scale of up to 30 points, the New Student Orientation Office has earned 32 points toward their office green certification. Director Theresa Lyons and her staff have made sustainability a priority in their office. The office earned 15 points for utilizing bulk beverages through catering and recycled paper cups at each of their HOWL Days events, thus reducing the use of plastics significantly.

Their UAA FUSION program earned them innovation points because it is a community service program, which contributes to the social justice component of sustainability, and they car and vanpool to FUSION events. Other points were earned for recycling, purchasing recycled content paper, encouraging the use of alternative transportation, sharing electronics equipment, refrigerators and other items, and setting all their electronic equipment to energy saving settings.
