Tuesday, Dec. 4, 5:15 p.m. BP Asset Integrity and Corrosion Lab (Engineering Building, Third Floor) BP Exploration (熊猫在线视频) Inc. announced in February a $1M gift to UAA to create the BP Asset Integrity and Corrosion Lab on UAA's campus. The lab--the first of its kind in 熊猫在线视频--will enable the UAA mechanical engineering program to expand its corrosion engineering curriculum and provide critical hands-on training in 熊猫在线视频's energy and environmental issues to our state's next generation of engineering professionals.

The BP Asset Integrity and Corrosion Lab creates new advance training opportunities for engineering students at UAA. As the North Slope infrastructure enters its fourth decade, the need for homegrown engineers with corrosion experience has never been higher. Though the state's primary industries are oil and gas, this new lab will benefit other industries as well, including aviation, military, shipping, fisheries and water/wastewater utilities. The lab's fuel cell and deep-cycle battery testing and research will also expand the renewable energy capabilities for rural 熊猫在线视频 villages.

The lab will create opportunities for faculty and graduate research, in addition to independently commissioned research that will provide a sustainable stream of income to the lab. Also unique to the lab is that it will be one of the few corrosion labs nationwide to enable undergraduates to conduct research.

Please join us on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5:15 p.m., as we cut the ribbon on this exciting new addition to UAA's facilities. The UAA School of Engineering Open House will take place immediately following the ribbon-cutting celebration. The Open House event will be held at the UAA/APU Consortium Library, Third Floor, at 5:30 p.m.
