Muller and Thorn selected to participate in study abroad site visits to Europe and Ghana
by Michelle Saport |
James Muller, professor of Political Science, and Andre Thorn, director of the Multicultural Center, have been selected through a competitive process to represent UAA at "open house"-style site visits abroad, hosted by UAA's partner AHA International. Muller will visit three sites in Europe (Athens, Greece; Angers, France; and London, UK), while Thorn will visit Accra, Ghana. In addition, Thorn will be funded to attend the tri-annual international education conference "Study Abroad in the Republic of Ghana: New Directions in Service Learning, Research, Cultural Immersion and Community Development."
An open call for applications went out to all UAA faculty, staff and administrators, and a UAA review team selected Muller and Thorn from a strong slate of applicants. The effort is part of a larger initiative on campus aimed at engaging faculty, staff and administrators in experiences that will help them integrate the UAA International and Intercultural Learning Outcomes into their work with students.
After returning from the site visits, both Muller and Thorn will work with colleagues and students to promote study abroad across the university and to enhance the international and intercultural components of their courses and programming.
AHA International was one of UAA's first study abroad affiliates. UAA is excited about the opportunity to benefit more deeply from this partnership. Funding and assistance will be provided by AHA International, the UAA Office of International and Intercultural Affairs and the Office of Academic Affairs.
