by Michelle Saport |
Wednesday, Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m. Chugiak High School Auditorium (16525 S. Birchwood Loop Rd., Chugiak, AK 99567) Free and family-friendly
Youth Court is a juvenile justice system that empowers students to serve as defense attorneys, prosecutors and judges in cases involving their peers. It gives students accountability, education and the opportunity to have a positive influence on others' lives while providing the community with an effective and comprehensive alternative justice system.
On this evening, youth clerks, bailiffs, attorneys and judges will present a mock sentencing hearing and discuss Youth Courts' work with a special history introduction by UAA Professor Emeritus Steve Haycox. This is a great opportunity to learn what our regional Youth Courts are all about. There will also be a chance for questions and answers following the hearing.
