Diversity Action Council seeks student, faculty and staff representatives to serve on subcommittees

The UAA Diversity Action Council (DAC) resolves to nurture an environment where the diverse cultures and beliefs of all people are acknowledged, diversity is respected, and all people are valued. As a resource committee to the Chancellor, the DAC advises and recommends courses of action that address campus-wide diversity issues to create an inclusive and respectful campus environment. The DAC also facilitates the funding of the DAC Funding Request program and the Student Diversity Awards.
DAC Co-Chairs, Associate Vice Chancellor for 熊猫在线视频 Natives and Diversity Jeane Breinig and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Bruce Schultz, are seeking student, faculty and staff representatives to serve on these two important DAC subcommittees:
- The DAC Funding Requests Subcommittee will review and decide upon requests for funding for events or projects that foster diversity and inclusion efforts on campus. See the DAC Funding Request web page for further information about the guidelines and past granted requests. Members of the subcommittee will be responsible for deciding upon submitted proposals during the academic year and should be willing to dedicate one to two hours each month for this purpose.
- The DAC Student Diversity Awards Subcommittee will review and decide upon student applications for this award. The Student Diversity Award is designed to recognize students who significantly contribute to enhancing diversity at UAA. See the DAC Student Diversity Award web page for further information about the criteria and past awardees. Members of this subcommittee will be responsible for advertising for the award, reviewing and scoring applications, and meeting as a group to decide upon awards. Members should be willing to dedicate an hour each month during the fall semester, three to four hours at the end of the fall semester to score applications, and one to two hours at the beginning of the spring semester to decide upon awards.
For each subcommittee the DAC Co-Chairs would like to appoint two faculty or staff members and two students. To be considered, please send an email to uaa_studentaffairs@alaska.edu by Friday, Oct. 5. Students interested in applying for the Student Diversity Award should refrain from serving on the subcommittee.
