Meet Your Colleagues: Krystal Offord
by Green & Gold News |
Meet Your Colleagues is a weekly feature highlighting employees who make a positive impact at UAA through their work every day. This week, we're launching the feature with a spotlight on Krystal Offord. For questions or to nominate someone for an upcoming feature, please contact University Relations at uaa_news@alaska.edu.
Krystal Offord
Assistant to the Associate Dean
Division of Math & Natural Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences
How do you contribute to student success?
Mostly indirectly, by supporting administrators, faculty and staff — providing what
they need to do their jobs to give the students what they need to be successful. My
personal mantra has always been, "I do what I do best, so that you can do what you
do best." Everyone has their own gifts and talents, and we all have something to contribute,
and when we put them all together success happens. Also, I have snacks for those students
who do happen to stumble into my office... usually by accident!
How long have you worked at UAA? Why did you decide to join UAA?
I started working at UAA a little over four years ago. It was a difficult decision
to leave the Anchorage School District after many years, but I decided to join UAA
because I was up for a new challenge and it provided my two sons with tuition benefits.
What is the most common question you receive at work?
"Can you help me figure out this travel stuff?"
What do you enjoy most about working at UAA?
Witnessing the commotion of students wandering through the buildings, studying, collaborating,
talking, drinking coffee. I love the commotion that it takes to build connections
and community. It's a visual of the purposeful work we do. Also, the people I work
with are pretty great.
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment while working here at UAA?
Making and facilitating connections among departments, divisions, colleges and coworkers
just down the hall.
What is your favorite ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ activity?
Mountain and snow biking, and just being outside.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I do my own stunts!
