University of 熊猫在线视频 implements executive and senior leader furloughs

by Jim Johnsen, UA President  |

UPDATE (April 30, 2020): Update on furloughs from UAA Chancellor Cathy Sandeen.

Dear UA Community,

After careful consideration and consulting with the chancellors, I have decided to implement a systemwide furlough in FY21 of all executive-level university employees in accordance with University Regulation R04.07.115.

Our leaders have been working diligently during this COVID-19 crisis making and implementing critical decisions on your behalf, but we must do more. The university is facing an unprecedented impact of the reduction in state support, revenue shortfalls associated with declining enrollment and other factors including COVID-19.

To help mitigate these financial realities, it is important that each of us do all that we can. Our students have worked hard to transition from campus life to remote studies. Our faculty have succeeded in delivering those distance courses. Now it is our turn.

The furloughs will affect 166 people including myself, the chancellors, executive officers and senior administrators across the system as well as faculty who hold significant administrative leadership roles including deans and directors. Designated officers of the university will incur ten (10) furlough days and designated senior administrators and non-represented faculty serving in leadership roles will incur eight (8) days.

The total budget impact of the FY21 furloughs is anticipated to be $554,000, and future cost-reduction measures will be considered before the final budget is adopted by the Board of Regents in June.

Sincerely,
Jim Johnsen
