Federal rule changes to Title IX

by Cathy Sandeen, UAA Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Community,

Earlier today you received a announcing the University of 熊猫在线视频 Board of Regents (BOR) approved changes to BOR policy based on new federal Title IX guidelines.

The federal rule changes are extensive and alter some key policies that have governed the university鈥檚 Title IX processes. Changes include narrowing the Title IX definition of sexual harassment and revisions to federal definitions for the terms sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. While the new definitions differ from the current language, the same sexual offenses remain prohibited.

I want to stress to you this does NOT change the fact UAA will not tolerate violence, harassment or discrimination of any kind on any UAA campus or in any facility or program. As your chancellor, I remain committed to fostering a campus culture of safety, security and respect for all who work and study here.

Now, more than ever, it is of critical importance you report instances of misconduct to the Office of Equity and Compliance or 907-786-0818. If a reported instance does not fall under the newly defined Title IX regulations, the reports will still be addressed under nondiscrimination, student conduct or human resources policies as appropriate.

Please know we will continue our efforts in training and prevention. We will also continue to investigate complaints in a timely and thorough manner while providing fair and effective sanctions as well as supportive measures.

Together, let鈥檚 continually strive to create a culture of respect.

Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
UAA Chancellor
