Thanksgiving holiday and winter closure
by Cathy Sandeen, UAA Chancellor |
Dear UAA Community,
The upcoming Thanksgiving holiday in November and winter closure period in December are just around the corner. I wanted to make employees aware of key dates for recording leave, along with a reminder that any travel you have planned must comply with state mandates and university guidelines.
Thanksgiving and winter closure dates
- Thanksgiving holiday: Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26–27
- Winter closure: Dec. 24, 2020–Jan. 1, 2021
Please note: Four days of the winter closure period are paid holidays: Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Three days of the winter closure period, Dec. 28, 29 and 30, are not paid holidays. On those days, employees will need to take annual leave, furlough (if appropriate), leave without pay or faculty time off.
Travel
Any travel over the holidays must comply with and university guidelines for and . Upon return from any location outside ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ, foreign or domestic, UAA employees
and non-residential students must stay home and self-observe for 14 days or until
they receive the results of a second negative COVID-19 test. Do not come to campus
until you have satisfied one of these requirements and remain healthy. Residential
students must notify the Student Health and Counseling Center immediately and follow
all procedures in place for UAA On-Campus Living.
Required work during winter closure
Some departments may need to remain open during the winter closure. Supervisors and
unit leaders should consult with the chancellor, provost or vice chancellor, as appropriate,
to determine required staffing levels to maintain university operations.
If employees are required to work on campus during the closure, supervisors must notify the University Police Department (UPD). All buildings will be locked during the closure. Any employee who needs access to UAA buildings must have a key or WOLFcard to gain entry. UPD will not open buildings. Supervisors should send notices of presence on campus during the closure to police@uaa.alaska.edu. If you have questions, please call UPD at 907-786-1120.
If you have additional questions, please contact Human Resources at 907-450-8200.
Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
