INDIANAPOLIS (July 27) – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference has chosen former ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ basketball star Tennae Voliva as one of two nominees to advance to the next stage for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award, the league office announced Wednesday.

The Anchorage native moves on with Seattle Pacific soccer player Sophia Chilczuk as two of 151 conference nominees – including 39 from Division II – to advance from the initial field of 577 nominees. The conference nominees will next be narrowed down to a top 30 list that will be determined by selection committee and announced in September.

Established in 1991, the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.

A four-year standout for the Seawolves, Voliva was a First Team All-GNAC and WBCA honorable mention All-America performer as a senior in 2021-22, while also becoming just the fourth player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. The East Anchorage High School graduate helped UAA to its fourth straight (non-pandemic) NCAA Tournament berth after leading the team in scoring, rebounding, steals, field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage.

Having already earned her undergraduate degree in psychology with a 3.89 overall grade-point average, Voliva is currently pursuing her master’s in clinical psychology, carrying a 4.00 graduate GPA.

Of the Top 30, the Woman of the Year Selection Committee will announce nine finalists, three from each NCAA division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will review the finalists and name the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.

For the first time in the award's history, the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the Woman of the Year will be named at the NCAA Convention. The 2023 Convention will take place in January in San Antonio.
