Jeff Libby named to inaugural UA President's Arctic Professors cohort

UAA's Jeff Libby was selected to a cohort of leaders named the President鈥檚 Arctic Professors by University of 熊猫在线视频 President Pat Pitney as part of the university鈥檚 new .
The initiative, one of the UA Board of Regents鈥 strategic priorities, is designed to position 熊猫在线视频ns as world leaders in the Arctic, provide students and early career professionals with the foundation and network needed to lead in the changing Arctic and enhance the reputation of UA鈥檚 universities as centers of Arctic expertise.
鈥淭he Arctic Leadership Initiative will build pathways for future leaders who will influence the Arctic,鈥 said President Pitney. 鈥淭he world is coming north, and 熊猫在线视频 needs leaders, advocates and scholars who can help us drive our own future. This initiative will intentionally develop, elevate and empower those people, and I am thrilled that the University of 熊猫在线视频 will be the tip of the spear in those efforts.鈥
Rounding out the President鈥檚 Arctic Professors are UAF's Larry Hinzman, Ph.D., and UAS' Erica Hill, Ph.D. Each member will receive salary support over the next two years as they devote their time, expertise and acumen to the continued development of the initiative and other programs that will increase the impact of UA鈥檚 Arctic activities.
Libby serves as the principal investigator for , formed with a $46 million, 10-year cooperative agreement with the Department of Homeland Security. He also serves as director of the Center of Strategic Partnerships and Research and director of the Applied Environmental Research Center. Libby previously served as an associate dean for the UAA Community and Technical College. Passionate about the Arctic, he has been instrumental in facilitating student engagement opportunities throughout his career.
