What is Accuplacer?
UAA believes it is important to start college on the right track, and Writing is important to your success! The Accuplacer helps you and your advisor make informed decisions about which Writing course is best for you to take in your first semester. The is UAA's computerized placement test to assess your reading comprehension and writing skills.
Do I have to take the Accuplacer?
Students with ACT or SAT scores that meet the minimum score requirements for WRTG 110 do not need to take the Accuplacer. Students who qualify for nontraditional credit (examples include AP, CLEP, IB) may not need to take the Accuplacer. .
What are the required Accuplacer scores for Writing classes?
UAA offers a variety of Writing courses to help students succeed. Your Accuplacer score helps determine which course is best for your first semester. more.
How do I take the Accuplacer?
You can at the UAA Testing Center in the Consortium Library. There is a fee of $21.00 that is payable via credit or debit card. The is administered at the UAA Testing Center: Tuesday's - Saturdays.
When should I take the Accuplacer?
Students are encouraged to complete their placement exams by certain dates for their incoming semester. Recommended deadlines are as follows:
- Fall semester entry: by May 1
- Spring semester entry: by November 1
- Summer semester entry: by February 1

Can I take the Accuplacer remotely?
Distance or tests are available to testers who are unable to physically test at the UAA Testing Center. We require all testing to be done in a proctored setting.
How do I get my Accuplacer results?
Results are given at the conclusion of the test. Students are also provided information to contact an academic advisor for assistance with program planning, course selection and registration. It is not possible to "fail" Accuplacer. Matching current skill level with the correct beginning courses in English will increase likelihood of success as students begin their program of study.
How long are my scores valid?
Accuplacer, ACT, and SAT scores which place students into Writing A111 do not expire. Accuplacer scores which place students into Preparatory English (PRPE classes) do not expire, however it is recommended to retest after two years.
Can I re-take the Accuplacer?
Yes, after a minimum wait of 2 days, students are allowed to retest. Students may test a total of twice per semester. Students must pay $21.00 each time they take the Accuplacer. Students testing under Ability to Benefit are required by federal guidelines to wait a minimum of two weeks between tests.
