Custodial Services

MISSION - In support of student success and community engagement, our mission is to provide a clean and safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the campus.

Routine and Emergency Custodial Reponses

Work orders for emergencies (which helps with claims management) or routine request may be using directions located on the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Facilities Maintenance & Operations page.

Custodial Frequency Schedules

**Floor plans with cleaning frequencies are under development.

(anchor) Routine Custodial Services include the following:

  • 5 day a week service in public areas such as auditoriums, classrooms, stairwells, hallways, lobbies, bathrooms, kitchens, breakrooms, and conference rooms are cleaned and made presentable each day.
  • Restrooms are sanitized and stocked once a day campus-wide.
  • Offices are cleaned every two weeks on Sunday or Monday. Office trash removal is not included with this service. Office occupants should empty their trash in centralized trash cans in the building.
  • Furniture stain removal.
  • Centralized trash is emptied and can liners are replaced.
  • Building exterior windows are cleaned every other year.

Non-Routine Custodial Services (Events)

Events that occur outside of normal cleaning hours or the normal scope of custodial operations for example a baby shower, or a reception on campus at a time and on a day that the normal cleaning is not going to have the space ready for the next user are considered non-routine and the cost for the associated custodial work to clean up after non-routine events is billable. Non-routine Custodial operations rates vary based on the length and size of the event. $52.50 per hour is a reliable figure. An estimate can be provided if you have a larger event.

  • Day porter service for public events. This service is always billable.

Both nonroutine service requests and events that require a day porter require two actions.

  1. They must be scheduled in 25 live.
  1. The party in charge of the event needs to submit a custodial service request (link to custodial service request form) so that a work order can be made to provide the custodial support the event requires.

Our cleaning standards

UAA Facilities Maintenance and Operations has adapted an internationally recognized appearance standard for our facilities. It is called APPA level 2 Ordinary Tidiness (comprehensive care).

Custodial Services Inspection Team

We have two full-time team members in custodial services. Each day they inspect the campus, respond to concerns and complaints, manage work orders and the cleaning needs for events. To manage the campus cleaning, the campus is divided between East and West with UAA drive being the dividing line.

East Campus Custodial Inspector – Pete Garcia – 907-786-4762 or agarcia13@alaska.edu (include email link)

West Campus Custodial Inspector - Diane Abo – 907-786-6914 or djabo@alaska.edu (include email link)

Sustainability efforts and sound environmental practices that UAA which our cleaning contractors embrace are:

  • use of recycled paper products and environmentally preferred products certified by Green Seal or Eco Logo
  • product control and management
  • product procurement and packaging controls
  • waste minimization and solid waste management
  • energy use management
  • equipment maintenance
  • employee occupational training
  • employee occupational protection
  • security and safety for UAA and your company and employees

Summer space cleaning reductions.

In an effort to be excellent stewards of University resources, each June and July the Custodial operations team removes a significant number of unused classrooms from the routine cleaning schedule. We also remove space and save resources for areas that are being renovated or remodeled.
