Sigma Tau Delta
Purpose of the Society
Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature. One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies, Sigma Tau Delta has over 600 active chapters, more than 900 faculty sponsors, and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually. Our members have the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, to enrich their education, receive help with career choices, and to advance their careers.
Requirements for Membership
To qualify for membership to Sigma Tau Delta, undergraduates must have completed a minimum of two college courses in English language or literature
beyond freshman English. The candidate must have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average

Candidates for graduate membership must be enrolled in a graduate program in English or one of its specializations,

Benefits of Membership
Membership in Sigma Tau Delta is an outward recognition of personal accomplishment. It also serves as an incentive for continued high scholarship. It provides opportunities for those interested in English language and literature to join with like-minded persons at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Members receive and have the opportunity to contribute to the award-winning literary publication The Rectangle and are eligible to compete for a number of prizes for excellence in writing. Student members are also eligible to compete for several $1,000—$2,500 scholarships and awards.
Other Events
Members of the Alpha Epsilon Nu chapter of Sigma Tau Delta organize and participate
in a variety of other events to help students gain important new skills and to raise
money for the Pacific Rim Conference. Some events that we have participated in in
the past are the annual Chili Cook-Off, the biennial Buck-A-Book sale, a workshop
on writing Curriculum Vitae, and a workshop on writing conference proposals. In addition,
we have collaborated with the Department of English's student anthology, Understory.
We are always looking for new members, so if you meet the membership requirements
and would like to be a part of a distinguished honor society, please apply today!
