ATTENTION JUNIORS: BECOME A TRUMAN SCHOLAR

To be considered for nomination, a student must be:

  • a full-time junior student at UAA
  • committed to a career in public service
  • in the upper quarter of his or her class
  • a United States citizen or national

Students who are identified as juniors by the registrar on their UAA transcripts and expect to graduate during the 2018-19 academic year are eligible to apply for the Truman Scholarship in the 2018 competition. Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

UAA may nominate several qualified students for this $30,000 scholarship for graduate study, which is the official United States memorial to President Harry S. Truman. To be considered for this prestigious national scholarship, you must first receive the University鈥檚 nomination.

Good candidates for the Truman Scholarship have a University GPA of 3.6 or above (3.8 or above is better); have demonstrated their aptitude and initiative by taking a leadership role in making the University or community a better place; have a strong interest in a career in public service, broadly defined; and have a well-defined plan for graduate study to prepare themselves for it.

To apply for the UAA nomination, go to the Harry S. Truman Scholarship website, , and carefully review the information there, which will be helpful in preparing a successful application. Then complete the sample application there. Submit it in hard copy, including the required policy proposal and three letters of recommendation, along with an unofficial UAA transcript and an up-to-date curriculum vit忙, including your current contact information, to Katie Brandenburg in the Social Sciences Building (SSB), Room 354, by noon on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 (first day of business at UAA after the holidays).

Applications will be reviewed by the UAA Truman Scholarship Representative, Professor James W. Muller, and a selection committee of 熊猫在线视频ns who have won Truman Scholarships. Applicants will be notified during the following week whether they have been selected for on-campus interviews soon afterward.
