UAA College of Engineering Students to Compete at NASA Rocket Competition

An all-women group of UAA Engineering students combined their individual expertise to build a rocket capable of surpassing the speed of sound, as they head off to compete at the NASA High Power Rocket Competition in Minnesota.

You might say that UAA College of Engineering facilities manager Kim Riggs is hardcore. She recently completed the Iditarod Trail Invitational (ITI) 1,000-mile bike race. But the petite, athletic Riggs feels like she's one of many, among a growing movement of outdoor adventurists, who enjoy the challenge of a human vs. wild event.

UAA ASCE Student Chapter Scores Big at Regional Steel Bridge Competition; Moving On to Compete at Nationals

Congratulations to our UAA Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers for placing 3rd overall and 1st in Aesthetics (for the third year in a row!) at their Regional ASCE Steel Bridge Competition.  Their stellar performance has earned them a spot at the 2019 National competition on May 31st.  Stay tuned!

UAA Robotics Club Advances to 2019 University Rover Challenge (URC) Finals

UAA's Robotics Club earned the right compete at the 2019 University Rover Challenge (URC),  May 30 - June 1 at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Utah! Their hard work placed them among 36 finalists selected after the most competitive review in the competition鈥檚 history.

Congratulations to Dr. Raghu Srinivasan and his mechanical engineering students--Breton Henry, Ezra Adams, Jarek Halat, Jasper Jackson and Aaliq Rowland--on their National Association of Corrosion Engineers International (NACE) 2019 MP Corrosion Innovation of the Year Award. The team created an adjustable atmospheric corrosion test rack to study corrosion in extremely cold climates to win the award.

UAA Engineering Professors Awarded PHMSA Research Grant

Congratulations to Professors Matt Cullin, Raghu Srinivasan and Todd Petersen on receiving a research grant from the U.S. DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). The $299K award will fuel research addressing the prevention and mitigation of pipeline corrosion.

Cousin Collaboration Converts Footsteps Into Electrical Energy
