UAA Education Abroad Options for Students

UAA offers hundreds of education abroad opportunities for students, including study abroad programs hosted through affiliate partners, international exchange programs, international internship programs, faculty-led programs, and more! Students have the opportunity to earn UAA credit abroad that can apply to your degree program.

Whether you go for a few weeks, a semester, or a year, there's a program that's just right for you! You can even go on more than one program! While some programs do have foreign language requirements, many others are taught in English and/or offer beginning-level language courses. Costs depend on the program and location, but you can use most financial aid on program costs and there are lots of scholarships opportunities available.

Education Abroad Options

Programs through Study Abroad Affiliate Partners:

Many UAA students go abroad through study abroad affiliate partner organizations. Students must meet the eligibility requirements for the particular program and pay a comprehensive program fee to an affiliated program provider. Students participating on these programs receive continuous support from the program provider throughout the pre-departure process and during the study abroad experience. Below are a list of UAA's study abroad affiliate partners along with all of the programs these partners offer for UAA students.

Direct International Exchange

* Direct International Exchanges to Japan are currently on hold. Please contact the Education Abroad Coordinator directly if you have questions. 

UAA has exchange agreements with specific institutions. UAA students participating in an international exchange program do not have as much administrative support (compared to programs hosted by a study abroad affiliate partner) and are not recommended for first-time travelers abroad. Students will pay tuition and a networking fee to UAA, but housing, meals and student fees to their host university. International exchange programs are competitive.  

Exchange Programs, in addition to the minimum requirements, also require a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Application Deadlines

All UAA outbound international exchange applications for Fall, Spring, and Academic Year programs are due March 1. There are currently no summer student exchange programs. 

 

 

north2north Mobility Program

UAA is a member of the . Membership gives UAA students the opportunity to go on exchange to many institutions in the arctic in order to study subjects that relate to arctic studies. 

The north2north exchange opportunity is competitive. Your application should reflect the north2north principles and how they relate to your educational goals. It is important that you work closely with both your academic advisor and your education abroad coordinator in OIIA during the application process.

Application Deadlines

All n2n exchange applications for Fall, Spring, and the Academic Year programs are due March 1. There are currently no summer student exchange programs.

N2N offers students a competitive scholarship. Students are encouraged to complete the UAA and n2n Uarctic application by February 1 to be considered for this scholarship. 

 

 

University of Stavanger and Kaare Birkeland Scholarship

UAA offers students an opportunity to apply for the Kaare Birkeland Scholarship for exchange to the in Stavanger, Norway. With a population of over 12,000 students from around the world, UiS is a great opportunity for students wishing to further their experience in Norwegian and Scandinavian culture.

Recipients of the scholarship will go on exchange for the full academic year (fall to spring).

The Kaare Birkeland scholarship opportunity is competitive.

Students who apply for and are selected by the Kaare Birkeland scholarship selection committee will be nominated to the University of Stavanger (UiS) and must then meet the application criteria, requirements and deadlines for UiS.

Application Deadlines

The deadline to apply for exchange is March 1. Those who wish to be considered for the Kaare Birkeland Scholarship must apply by February 1.

 

Florence University of the Arts - APICIUS

The UAA Culinary Arts and Hospitality program is offering students in their program the opportunity to participate in a study abroad experience at the through the APICIUS International School of Hospitality in Florence, Italy. 

This program is only offered during the Fall semester.

Application Deadlines

Students who wish to go on the FUA - APICIUS program must complete a UAA application by the UAA Education Abroad Application deadline. Your host institution could have earlier deadlines than listed here and it is your responsibility to know your program's application deadline.

All UAA study abroad applications for Fall programs are due March 1.

 

Faculty-Led Programs

Faculty-Led programs are classes taught by UAA professors to UAA students in a foreign location. Students are enrolled in courses at UAA, as if they were taking the course on campus, with no transfer of credits necessary. Faculty-Led programs are usually offered in the summer or winter break, and are shorter, less independent options than semester or year-long programs. UAA works with international partners to provide housing, classroom space, transportation, and other services for students while abroad.
