UAA’s Bachelor of Arts in art degree program combines a diverse liberal arts curriculum with studio and history courses. As an undergraduate student, you’ll have the freedom to explore classes in a variety of academic areas, acquire a broad understanding of art and art history and develop a method of artistic expression using various studio approaches.Art scholarships and financial aid

Art bachelor’s degree program highlights
The Bachelor of Arts in art program at the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ offers many opportunities to turn your creative interests into a passion for art and design.- Work with a variety of materials and technologies. The UAA Fine Arts Building offers nine specialty art studios equipped with the most up-to-date iMac computers, 3-D printers, a CNC router, a combined traditional press and digital printmaking software.
- Receive instruction and mentoring from active and accomplished artists. Program faculty and instructors have built their artistic careers in and outside of ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ. Recently, they have exhibited work in the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center and Schaller Gallery in St. Joseph, Michigan. And, they have completed residencies all over the world, from Cleveland, Ohio, to Jingdezhen, China.
- Gain first-hand experience through internships and study abroad. Some undergraduate students have spent a semester studying art and art history in Italy, and many complete internships on and off campus. For example, art majors have been hired by UAA Student Life and Leadership as well as Student Clubs and Greek Life. They have also interned with the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center and the municipality of Anchorage’s 1% for Art program.
- Get involved in the UAA and Anchorage art and design communities. Student clubs fund visiting professors and artists, host classes, curate exhibitions and send participants to conferences and workshops. You can also take part in service learning projects incorporated into classes and activities. For example, art majors contributed to the tobacco-free campus initiative, painted a mural on Gorsuch Commons, developed programming for the Boys & Girls Clubs ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ, and taught education workshops at the Anchorage Museum.
- Advance art and design with independent studies and undergraduate research. Students have participated in week-long landscape painting workshops in Denali National Park taught by renowned ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵn painter David Mollet and hosted by the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Geographic Society. A UAA art student recently completed a workshop on design and marketing taught by internationally known designer Molly Hatch at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts in Montana.

Art bachelor’s degree program curriculum
With a focus on community engagement and service, UAA’s Bachelor of Art in art degree encourages independent thinking, critical thinking and problem solving within historical and cultural contexts. Classes combine studio coursework with art and design history, art education, professional practices and general studies for a strong liberal arts education.What’s the difference between a Bachelor of Arts in art and a Bachelor of Fine Arts?
In contrast to UAA’s B.F.A. program, the Bachelor of Art in art degree is less art-intensive, with fewer studio courses and more elective courses. The B.A. in art program also excludes the third-year application process and thesis writing and exhibition, offering more flexible coursework options.
