Educational leadership master’s degree program highlights

The educational leadership program offers a flexible, hands-on graduate experience designed to prepare school leaders in ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ and around the world. The following are some of the top reasons to choose UAA for your master’s degree program.

  • Learn through a variety of field-based experiences. Opportunities include teacher and staff observations, student discipline process observations, organizational culture audit tools and school board meetings. Other field-based experiences involve developing safety plans, reviewing legislative agendas and educational bills, building school improvement plans, developing professional development sessions and helping to develop budgets.
  • Take part in a year-long principal internship. As part of the internship, you’ll lead a project within a K-12 public education setting – typically the school where you teach. The internship is closely supervised and supported with at least two faculty site visits.
  • Work in an online cohort. For much of the program, you’ll work through learning modules at your own pace along with a community of peers. A new cohort begins each summer. Online courses are conducted through Blackboard and Blackboard Collaborate and use web-based video platforms and social media apps.
  • Find flexible options to meet your specific learning and career needs. If you’re not already teaching at a school site, or if you’re a teacher coming from a private or charter school, UAA’s program has the flexibility to provide the experiences you need for administrative credential and public school leadership. The educational leadership program also works well for students outside ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ, integrating cultural competency skills that you can apply anywhere.
  • Learn from top faculty who are dedicated to helping you succeed. UAA instructors bring extensive educational research and school leadership experience to the master’s degree program and work closely with students as advisors and mentors.
  • Take part in professional clubs and conferences. The educational leadership program offers membership opportunities with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Association of School Administrators, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). You can also participate in the UAA Graduate Student Association and the annual ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Principals’ Conferences.
