Biography
John Damberg is a master vibist, marimbist, percussionist, composer and educator who has enjoyed a successful career in music spanning 50 years. John resides in Anchorage, ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ where he is the leader of the John Damberg Latin Jazz Quintet-(1995-present), the Instructor of Percussion at the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ (1991-present), the President of the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Jazz Workshop (AJW) (1995-present), and the past President & Vice-President of the Percussive Arts Society ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ Chapter (1993-2007). John is an active performer on the ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ and Pacific Northwest music scenes and he is an ardent promoter of jazz and percussion education. John has published 4 CDs including Azure (2005), Angie’s Samba (1998), Human Hands (1993), and the Chilkoot March (1989). Awards include grants from ÐÜèÔÚÏßÊÓƵ State Council on the Arts (2021, 2013, 1994), Muni of Anchorage (2020), and Rasmuson Foundation (2010).
