Biography

Kate Egan, soprano, holds vocal performance degrees from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and the Eastman School of Music, where she received a Performer鈥檚 Certificate in Opera.  Ms. Egan began her career in New York City where her versatility as a singing actor led to solo work with the New York City Opera, the Philip Glass Ensemble, the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and national tours of The Sound of Music.  She made her operatic debut as Micaela in Carmen with the Sarasota Opera and has performed with regional companies all over the United States, including Glimmerglass, Chautauqua, Skylight Opera Theatre, Sacramento and Tulsa, and internationally in Tokyo, Mexico City, Toronto, Vancouver, in England, and in Spain.  Well known to Anchorage audiences, Kate has been a soloist with the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Anchorage Concert Chorus, the 熊猫在线视频 Chamber Singers, and the Anchorage Opera with whom she has sung 18 leading roles.  Favorite roles with AO are the title role in Semele, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus (The Polar Bat) and the role that brought her to 熊猫在线视频, Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld.  A regular guest artist with the Anchorage Festival of Music, Kate collaborated with AFM colleagues, mezzo-soprano, Marlene Bateman, and pianist, Juliana Osinchuk, on a recording of classical duets, 鈥Nothing but singing to do.鈥  Kate opened a private voice studio in Anchorage in 1999, and joined the voice faculty at UAA in 2008.  An enthusiastic educator, she has served the 熊猫在线视频 chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing as President (2003-2013) and District Governor (2017-2021.)
