For developing musicians, the opportunity to perform as part of an ensemble is integral to improving musicianship and professionalism. Performing in ensembles will push you beyond your normal comfort zone by widening your musical styles and knowledge while also making you more conscious of areas for improvement. In order to provide our students a well-rounded musical education as well as ample performance opportunities, we offer a wide-variety of ensembles lead by our esteemed faculty. 

Guitar Ensemble
The UAA Guitar Ensemble is directed by Dr. Armin Abdihodzic and features a blend of classical guitar pieces as well as music especially arranged for the ensemble.
 
Under the direction of Dr. Mari Hahn, Opera and Music Theatre Ensemble performs an exciting variety of music -- from full-length Classical operas to imaginative revues of the latest Broadway hits. 
 
University Sinfonia
Conducted by Ludek Wojtkowski, the University Sinfonia is the orchestra ensemble which rehearses and performs in collaboration with the Anchorage Youth Orchestra. Dr. John Lutterman also provides weekly coachings to Sinfonia musicians in chamber-music repertoire.
 
The UAA Chamber Music program is under the leadership of Dr. John Lutterman and dedicated to the exploration and practice of repertoire in a small-group setting. Instruction is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student under the guidance of experienced faculty coaches.  
 
The UAA Seawolf Pep Band is directed by Dr. Christopher Song and Austin Rochon. This student ensemble performs and provides the spirit at hockey, women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics events.
 
University Singers
The University Singers is under the direction of Dr. Grant Cochran who also conducts the . This talented ensemble performs a blend of classical and modern choral pieces as well as pop arrangements.
 
Dr. Armin Abdihodzic directs the Jazz Ensemble which can be seen in action several times throughout the year in conjunction with the Jazz Week Benefits. Musicians for the ensemble are drawn from both UAA students and the wider Anchorage community. 
 
The UAA Baroque Orchestra, the UAA Early Music Ensemble, and the UAA Viol Consort, directed by Dr. John Lutterman, provide students with rare and valuable experience performing on period instruments, using historically-informed performance practices. 
 
The UAA Wind Ensemble is directed by Dr. Christopher Song rehearses and performs music across the wind band repertoire. This group performs two concerts a semester.
