Painting
The Painting Program at UAA offers courses to a wide range of students with diverse
interests that build a variety of technical and conceptual skills. Students learn
the fundamental skills of oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting in beginning level
classes. In Intermediate level classes, students are allowed to focus on representation,
abstraction, technological, cross disciplinary and mixed media approaches. As students
progress to advanced levels, our program stresses constructive criticism and individual
perspectives to help build their conceptual and technical skills. Overall, experimental
practices and personal expression are explored in an interdisciplinary, historical,
and theoretical manner.
The painting studio is a large dynamic space with natural light and inspiring views
of the Chugach Mountains. Facilities include equipment for canvas construction, accommodation
of large scale work and all necessary equipment for acrylic painting, oil painting
and encaustic.
